For once, this will not only mountain railway and stations (another of my hobbies, less developed than the mountaineer). A walk through Canfranc International station, one of the English railway ghosts. Built in the early s. XX, worked several years as a hub linking both sides of the border, and recalls in particular the transport history of the Nazi gold that was used to pay the tungsten mines supplied German troops in Galicia. Both minerals passed through here.
After the war the station fell into decline, until an accident involving a freight train in the French satellite in 1970, confirmed the abandonment of the line by the French government. Since then I have tried to recover the international traffic, but initiatives in this sense the negative encounter the neighboring country.
In this website at the University of Navarra no articles, stories and photos from inside the station, as well as links to entities related to their conservation.
For starters, there is a building bigger than the Titanic, according to locals, who get two trains a day coming and going to Zaragoza Canfranero famous. The main building is fenced, waiting to be reconverted into a luxury hotel. At least they removed the sheet, three years ago covered the entire building, but from the outside it looks as if they had not done anything ...

serves a unique way, in a quite regrettable. Two buildings side ...
... which gave neither eager to get ...
All doors open here have accumulated dirt, debris and waste more than 40 years
currently works only the "stand" going to the left, just across the river Aragon with the only way in service
Rear of main building. In the middle lay a track beach
Facilities dead from decades ago ...
... silent witnesses to history ...
front of the main building is the former loading dock
sidings on the one hand ...
... accumulating corpses in their tracks ...
Years ago, this road went to France, crossing the Somport by an international tunnel. Since the closure of the line on the French side, is deprecated
On the English side, not that you go much better
Another view the loading docks
... and the beach track, now a little less than a potato fields. In the south, the forest completely covers the rails and crossbars
Anyway, hard to imagine this skeleton with an intense and constant movement of goods and people. Hopefully in a few years, has a better appearance
