Retriever Birthday Cakes

the foot of the Pyrenees Large: Castle Mayor

This was one of the first KDDs we organize Mendiak Forero, and a few years ago ... We agreed between Basques and Catalans to be somewhere in between, and we came Ordesa area well at all. I went there with Txus and after a few hours we road along with Raul, Kepa , Marc, and Paul Zuirñe near Ainsa Sobrarbe capital, and the next day gave free rein to our love of mountain

Mayor Castle is located between the Valle de Tella, which flows into the Cinca, and Añisclo, which includes much of the snows of the southern slopes of the peaks of the Ordesa National Park and Monte Perdido. There is a considerable height, and less compared to the three thousand residents, but it becomes a perfect vantage point to contemplate both the Monte Perdido massif as Posets, farther, and the Peña Montañesa the south.

From Escalona, \u200b\u200bBielsa on the road, we climbed towards Puértolas and left the car shortly afterwards, in the turning that leads from the left and right Bestué Escuaín. We collect the gear, we loaded all the material ... well no, snow shoes and crampons no, you do not see any snow

it started to climb the path up between the two tracks, heading for what seems the only way through Mayor's Castle walls

And as we gain altitude and vegetation that lets us see something, the view we begin to leave the mouth open to Bestué and Sestrales hill ...

... or to the imposing Rock Montañesa

Meanwhile we rise, approaching the embankments ...

Bestué far

find the entrance of the castle among rocks and bushes, we got our way ...

... and follow the trace, after a short but intense drop ...

... and always contemplating the majesty of the Rock Montañesa ...

... we leave the gates of Castle Mayor
plain

However, a small problem ... we said that there was no snow?

Well apparently there is not, but ... we have to cross the valley to reach the ramp that provides access to the top, and there's a snow paquetón

was not getting to 200 m. long, but there was no way to cross. Behind the plain, Sestrales

At first try skirting the "lake" of snow, rising as if we were to turn around the circus ...

... but we saw that we were going to stretch too much and at the end we had no choice but to cut their losses

And that is seen from here ... seemed that we were crossing a frozen lake

After

get snow until the very, there's nothing like a stop to dry socks. And since we're going to give the prey

Rest, food and laughter, after seeing Txus barefoot over the snow as if nothing ...
continue the march, instead of going directly we come to the summit ridge, now no way defined, among boulders and bushes

Across the valley we controlled a herd of chamois

Another solid
of those not so well known: the Cotiella

We have been gaining altitude rapidly, the level is already down. Behind Sestrales, further back, others saw the already I have no idea (perhaps the last of all is Guara, can someone confirm?)

We went out tooth, some arrive earlier than others ... but they are

Bilbao

Latest ramps are hard ...

... but the rewards will be great once up

Between break and go back, look back: Posets

A lone a few meters from the top

There is

Castillo Mayor, 2,014 m.

is impossible resist the majesty of the kings of Ordesa (despite the evil that has been pan): Sorors Three, the Three Marys, Sierra Custody ...

Escuaín ... the ravine at the foot ...

... Cotiella back and the valley of the Cinca half hidden by the fog

The rest of the wall of the Castillo Mayor, with Peña l'Ombre (1989 m.) as a second top, behind the Sierra Custody

Mendiak
pets will also have their role
(whatever happened to the frog??)

Here we fill their stomachs, some even gave us time for a nap.
No hurry, we started the descent, the direct route now

again the same problem above: the snowshoes in the car ...

Again Castillo crossed the plain of Mayor ...

... and back on our heels ...

... to move beyond the walls of this castle mountain

The evening came to camp four foreros more: Kamarake, Gorbea, Pal and Miranda, who delighted us with one of his creations, after the forum ...
